Thank you for visiting the Issues page. In the menu above, I have listed my blog posts under a variety of headings. These blog posts include the period from 2013-2020 when I served as the MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head. Over the 7 1/2 years that I was an MLA, I made a concerted effort to contribute to a wide variety of issues affecting British Columbians. I always subscribed to the notion that transparency and accountability were critical if one wished to build public trust in the political decision making process. As such, these blog posts contain all of my speeches in the legislature, position essays on topics and subjects that I worked on, justifications for all my votes in the BC legislature, and details of my engagement within the broader community. I also have a community blog in the pull down menu wherein I celebrated local businesses and youth in our community.
I ran on a promise to work across party lines, to support good policy and to raise legitimate, factual concerns about important issues. These archived posts provide the evidence that I followed through with my promise. I was able to advance Private Member’s bills when I sat in opposition as the lone BC Green MLA in the BC Liberal majority government from 2013-2017. I also had several bills pass when the BC Greens under my leadership held the balance of responsibility in the BC NDP minority government from 2017-2020. During this time I was also involved in extensive negotiations with both the BC NDP and BC Liberals in efforts to find common ground to advance public policy that reflected divers political and community views.
For the record, I am not a member of any political party provincially or federally.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website.
Best wishes,
Andrew Weaver
